Whispering Grove is the enchanting 2-acre entrance park to the Rainwater Crossing community. As you wander along peaceful walking trails and pause by the shimmering reflection pond, you’ll get your first peek into the magic of this neighborhood. The park’s star attraction, Scout’s Tree — a magnificent 35-foot-tall fine art sculpture—arrives this summer. To be the first to know about its debut, sign up for our VIP List updates.
We’re glad you asked! Scout is a fine-art sculpture of the cheerful purple martin who guides you through Rainwater Crossing. He will be arriving in the community this summer.
Purple martins are social “people birds” native to North Texas. They thrive in communities and rely on human-provided housing. Each year, the first martin to return is called the “scout,” which is how our signature bird got his name.
You will be able to find Scout in two art installations within the community. The first is “Scout’s Tree,” a landmark placemaking sculpture at Whispering Grove, the entrance park for Rainwater Crossing. The second fine-art installation, “Scout on Watch,” is a nearly 7-foot-tall sculpture that will be located at the Perch amenity center. This ground-level installation allows for a more personal connection with Scout’s friendly and curious spirit.

Coming in the summer of 2026, “Scout’s Tree” is a new 35-foot-tall sculpture from nationally recognized, Dallas-based artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin. Inspired by the historic tree farm that once stood on the site, this placemaking artwork honors the area’s natural beauty and history.
Crafted from stainless and Cor-ten steel, the sculpture will capture attention upon arrival and create an immersive experience for visitors and residents with integrated lighting that makes it glow at night. It will be part artwork, part adventure, and entirely magical.
